Repairing and Re-binding an Old Paperback
Tuesday 19th November 2019
10:00am - 4:30pm approx
£45 per person
We have all experienced old and well used paperback books falling apart. Typically this is due to the adhesive that was originally used failing.
In this workshop we shall look at taking a paperback apart and/or trimming off the spine. We shall then re-glue the spine using a method known as double fan gluing.
We shall then strengthen the book block by adding thread across the spine. We shall then add new endpapers and create a hard back case binding for the book.
If feasible we shall also look at re-using the original covers on the front and rear of the new binding.
Participants are invited to bring along their own old paperbacks (standard size) to re-bind, though at the discretion of tutor it may not be suitable to do so.
Practice books will be provided.
There are a maximum of ten places available so booking is essential. A non-refundable deposit is required when booking, the rest being payable on the day.
All the materials and tools required will be provided, as will tea/coffee and biscuits. You will need to bring your own lunch, though there are shops a short walk away.
